This session will be designed for frontline staff/parents/educators who deal with children with sensory processing challenges on the Autism Spectrum.  Families understand that self regulation is a top priority for children to successfully integrate into the community and for success at home and school.  Children with limited verbal skills benefit from non-language based approaches.  Having simple low cost games and activities is helpful to promote co-regulation and self control.  Simple equipment and visuals will be demonstrated.  Participants are “recommended” to have completed a previous workshop in sensory intergration/processing, or to have read the opening chapters of ”Building Bridges Through Sensory Integration” (contact Shirley for a copy or borrow if from the library, or Achimota).

Attending Achimota Centre

Posted by Achimota Barrie

“Over the course of the past three years, Jacob has been attending the Achimota Centre for Children with Autism. During that time, he has developed a number of life skills that he now uses daily, such as, learning how to ask for the things he needs and how to prepare toast (his favourite food). These skills make a real difference in Jacob’s daily life and have an enormous impact on the lives of his siblings and all the other people who care about him.” Bill & Nadean Dunlop – Parents
